Best Quality Laptop Summary

Apple MacBook Pro.

With most of the major changes to the Pro Series coming and going last year, this latest iteration of the MacBook is more geared towards fine tuning rather than big changes. This year Apple added an SD Card slot, backlit keyboard, reintegration of a Fire Wire port and a new lower price. One change they made that you will either love or hate is the conversion of the battery to a fully sealed non-removable one. Apple claims though to have increased battery life by 40%, meaning that it may take you 5 years of normal use before it needs replacement. Odds are the computer will be long gone by that time. Also your average time before recharging has been increased to about 7 hours.

The Pro has retained its solid aluminum case and glass over LED display, giving it a very classy look. The aluminum case gives a rugged feel not found in other laptops due to the fact that the case is machined out of solid aluminum. The downside of this though is that the transmission of heat from internal components becomes almost instantaneous. Good for the machine, but not so good if you’re actually using it on your lap. The screen has good viewing angles and a nice crispness due to the glossy glass covering, but this also has a bad habit of picking up distracting reflections.

All in all though, the MacBook Pro has many fine points that will make it a good choice for purchase. Not the least of which is the fact that it is one of the most useable laptops out there.

HP Mini 311

Netbooks are starting to take the world by storm, although they will probably never replace your full featured laptop. None the less though, Netbooks are gaining in popularity as their features and computing power grow.

One case in point is the HP Mini 311; it comes the closest to not being a Netbook yet. Most of these pieces of equipment are great for casual surfing and checking email, but the 311 takes it a step further with an HD screen and the ability to actually play 3D games. Although not the fastest Netbook in town the 311 is sturdy and utilitarian machine that provides much better than average performance.

One  these areas of better performance is the Nvidia ION Graphics Processor, which makes the playing of the previously mentioned games possible. The speakers are also a cut above the normal fare for Netbooks, producing a much richer sound that other units on the market. Battery life is also a big plus with this machine, with video playback time being extended to 5 hours plus. This is great for long trips or just cooling your heels at the airport.
